Current Work

KConnect is working to ensure the educators in our schools reflect the richness and diversity of our community. Through the Diverse Educators 360-Degree Model, the Shades of Strength Collaborative, and the Teach Here initiative, we are strengthening every stage of the educator pathway. This includes supporting students and professionals of color who want to become teachers, investing in the retention and wellbeing of current educators of color, and partnering with schools and communities to build environments where all educators and students experience belonging.

Why It Matters
  • Student belonging and achievement: Students benefit academically and socially when they learn from educators who reflect their identities and lived experiences, strengthening attendance, engagement, and long term success.
  • Workforce stability and economic mobility: Expanding accessible pathways into teaching creates sustainable careers rooted in purpose, strengthens the regional talent pipeline, and keeps skilled professionals in the local economy.
  • Inclusive learning environments: Culturally responsive classrooms improve outcomes for all students by fostering empathy, higher engagement, and a stronger sense of belonging across school communities.
  • Sustainable community investment: Teach Here transforms local talent into local educators, creating a lasting cycle where communities cultivate and retain the professionals needed for future generations.
